Defining Freedom

free•dom (ˈfrēdəm)   noun, the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.
“we do have some freedom of choice”
•  absence of subjection to foreign domination or despotic government.

synonyms:  independence, self-government, self-determination, self-rule, home rule,sovereignty, nonalignment, autonomy; More

•  the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved.
“the shark thrashed its way to freedom”
synonyms:    liberty, liberation, release, deliverance, delivery, discharge;

Hard to let go of the political, governmental context when freedom is so defined that way.  How difficult was it for you to move into a different context to define freedom?
