How Happy are You?

how-winnie-the-pooh-works-1-300x225I’ve followed the work of Dr. Seligman, the Happiness Doctor, Director of the Penn Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania, for quite some time.   He is a leading authority in the fields of Positive Psychology, resilience, learned helplessness, depression, optimism and pessimism as well as the interventions that prevent depression, and build strengths and well-being.

Dr. Seligman has done extensive research on the topic; I ascribe to his theories.  His research, based on an analysis of recent studies and data on well-being, offers 7 key areas that directly affect our happiness; they are

  • Social engagement (communicating)
  • Civic engagement (caring)
  • Spiritual engagement
  • Personal strengths
  • Virtues
  • Positive attitudes
  • Physical exercise
