Leadership is Motivation

Leadership is Motivation

For some time the common belief was that people were motivated by incentives; recent research documents the flaws in that belief. Daniel Pink shares that incentives dull thinking and squash creativity. They do exactly the reverse of what is intended. Common purpose involves passion, belonging and shared vision which serves to energize. When we have passion, we are able to bring others along on a quest to achieve the common purpose. People engage with meaning not incentives. Motivation serves to empower.
